My husband and I recently went on date night to see a movie and, well, I’d like to say dinner, but we got an appetizer instead. Mmm, the nachos were delicious. We enjoy going to Disney Springs (formally known as Downtown Disney, and I still think of it like that) and walking around, just enjoying the ambiance.
We saw Star Trek, which I thoroughly enjoyed, then headed to Splitsville Bowling for the nachos. Seriously, delicious nachos. You gotta try them sometime. Afterwards we walked around the new section recently added. It’s a whole new area of shops. They did a nice job of everything, but of course, I’m not surprised because Disney generally does. (I’m a fan, if you haven’t noticed 🙂 )
While walking around, I noticed a wonderful saying, that honestly I can’t believe I’ve never seen before, and fell in love.
♥ Life itself is the most wonderful fairy tale of all. ♥ Quote by: Hans Christian Andersen
And seriously, isn’t that so true. Life is so beautiful. I know my life is and I couldn’t have asked for a better fairy tale. *chuckles* I even had a Cinderella themed wedding. So magical.
I love this saying so much I decided to create a sign for my wall in the living room near some of our family pictures. Now, keep in mind I’m not the world’s greatest crafter and the glue didn’t always cooperate, but I’m gonna share it with you. Because why not.
Wooden sign for wall (Great title, right? *wink*)
– Piece of wood (any size)
– White Acrylic Paint (I also mixed it with Ultra Fine Glitter Paint-Ice Crystal)
– Paint Brush
– Letter Stencil
– Glue (I used Mod Podge Dimensional Magic)
– Glitter (the color you desire)
– Krylon Low Odor Clear Finish
– Metal Sawtooth Picture Hanger (or Command Strip)
Note: Everything I used I had lying around the house. I didn’t have to go out and purchase anything. The best kind of way to do a craft when you really want to do it:)
First, I rummaged through the garage and found a piece of wood. Could it have been a little longer? Yeah, probably, but that’s all I had at the time. I painted the front and sides all white mixed with Ultra Fine Glitter Paint to give it a small extra glitter feel. I gave it three coats. So factor in drying time between each coat.
Next, I rummaged through my craft supplies and thankfully found a letter stencil, fancy kind too:) I transferred the saying onto the wood very carefully with a pencil. I did have to redo the bottom once because the words didn’t fit the first time. As you can see above, they almost didn’t fit the second time either. Yeah, a bigger piece of wood would’ve been very helpful, but I think it still turned out pretty decent.
Once the entire saying was written, I grabbed the Mod Podge Dimensional Magic glue (which has a thin tip) and carefully traced each word separately. I obviously started with “life” and before I moved on to the next word, I grabbed my red glitter (because red to me symbolizes love) I sprinkled it generously on the word. I dumped all excess glitter onto a piece of paper (so I could put that extra back into the glitter container). I did each word one at a time like this. FYI, I added two pretty hearts just because.
Once completed, I let it sit to the side for a while to dry. After it was dry, I took a dry paint brush and brushed away any excess glitter surrounding the words, because yeah, just dumping it onto the paper didn’t take all of it away. Using the paint brush tidied it up really nice.
The last step, which I always do with all my crafts, was spray it with Krylon Low Odor Clear Finish to protect it. Then I let it dry overnight.
Today, I knew I didn’t have any Command Strips (which I love to use to hang things with), so I looked through the toolbox and found some Metal Sawtooth Picture Hangers. I used two of those on the back of the wood and hung it nicely on the wall. The picture above was taken with it hanging on the wall.
There you go! A nice easy way to create a wooden saying. Keep in mind a better glue with an even smaller tip (or even a different stencil) would have made it looking a little more prettier. I do like how this turned out overall.
Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend!
