Writing Prompt: Shoving the gun in his bloodied mouth
Grabbing him roughly by his shirt, shoving the gun in his bloodied mouth, he tried to keep his anger in check and not pull the trigger. He wouldn’t kill the guy, even though he ached to. But he sure in the hell would put the fear of God in him.
“Listen up and listen good. You’ll keep your distance from Heather. You won’t call her, follow her, show up anywhere she’s at.” He pulled him closer as the gun jammed further in his mouth, causing him to gag. “You won’t even think about her. Because if you do, I’ll pull the trigger next time. Are we clear?”
Stephen’s eyes glazed with fear as he nodded and gagged once again as he shoved the gun to make sure his point was made perfectly clear. He removed the gun and dropped Stephen. Although he could see the fear blazing in his eyes, he also saw the defiance. He wasn’t totally convinced he would listen. What did he do? He would protect Heather at all costs—even if he had to kill the guy.
He blinked a few times, his mind trailing to the present and to the soft body cradled in his arms. “Yeah, baby?”
She shivered, perhaps at the endearment that slipped out. He hadn’t meant for that to come out. But it sounded damn good.
“Where am I? What happened to…Where is…”
He brushed a tender hand down her cheek. “We’re in my loft above the bar. Don’t you remember me bringing you here? I helped you take a quick shower and then you asked me to lay with you. I even asked if you wanted to go to the hospital. Do you want to go to the hospital now?”
“No. I’m fine.” She shivered again, this time for all the wrong reasons. “I don’t remember much. I don’t want to remember what happened tonight.”
“Tell me what to do and I’ll erase every memory you don’t want.”
“Shh, baby. It’s okay. Everything’s okay now.” Dash pulled her closer and kissed her forehead. “That bastard will never hurt you again.”
“Is he…” Her voice trailed off. It broke his heart how she kept stumbling over her words. “Is he dead?”
Inhaling, he then kissed her forehead again, a little harder this time. “Do you want him to be?”
Her body trembled as the words floated between them. He knew she didn’t know him well, or what he was capable of, but she knew now. If she wanted him dead, he’d make it happen. He’d do anything for her. He didn’t hand him over to the police yet. In fact, Rocket was watching over Stephen, waiting for instructions. He only stayed in the room briefly with Stephen. Only long enough to get his point across that it’d be in his best interest to leave Heather alone. Or else.
“He’s sick. He needs help.”
“You tell me what you want and it’s done.”
“I don’t know what I want.” She snuggled closer. “I like your arms around me. I shouldn’t. I barely know you. Yet, I want to stay right here.”
“I’ll never let you go.”
He meant his words. He would never let her go. Ever. The words came out softly, yet forcefully. If she didn’t know how he felt, she did now. The thought probably scared her. Something he didn’t want to do, yet it most likely did. Whatever was between them shouldn’t be possible, but he knew what he felt. He loved her with his entire being.
“Dash…” Her breath hitched. “Who are you?”
“I’m the man who’s gonna love you for the rest of your life, who will protect you, who will give you anything you want, anytime.” He inhaled her sweet scent as she sighed. “Baby, I love you. I am nothing without you. That’s who I am.”
“That’s kinda creepy, Dash. You don’t even know me.” She giggled, the sweet sound filling the room.
He lifted her head. “I have more crazy talk where that came from. Just say the word and I’ll keep going.” He grinned as he softly kissed her, lightly, nibbling on her bottom lip, then backed away. “I can’t explain why or how I feel like this. I just do. The minute I saw you, I knew you were someone special. The minute I spoke to you, I knew you were it for me.”
Her eyes misted over as her lips quirked into a small grin. “You sure have a way with words.” Then her smile dipped, as did the volume of her voice. “Thanks for saving my life. He…he was…”
“Shh, baby.” He kissed her lips to silence the trembles of fear that engulfed her. “He’ll never hurt you again.”
“Who was that man with you?”
“My friend Rocket.”
“Nowhere near you. He’ll never get close to you again. I swear.”
She sighed deeply. “You’ll get him the help he needs?”
“Is that what you want?” It wasn’t what he wanted, but he’d do whatever she said.
Nodding, she bit her bottom lip. “He’s sick. The Stephen I knew would never hurt me.”
“It’s done then.” He grazed her lips again, softly, slowly, and with as much patience as he could muster. He wanted so much more, but not yet. Now wasn’t the time for that.
A gentle smile touched her lips. “I’m tired, but I’m afraid to fall asleep. Will you give me more crazy talk?”
Chuckling, he kissed her forehead once more. “Where do I start? The first time I saw you smile, I nearly fell on my ass from the beauty of it. I probably fell a little bit in love with you right then. When you first spoke to me…”
He continued to tell her everything he felt, every little emotion that hit him every time she walked into his bar. The longer he spoke, the more relaxed she became. Before long, the beautiful angel in his arms had fallen asleep. Right where she belonged.
